How to Accurately Pair Wireless Medical Devices with a Physical Token

The wireless revolution has changed lives for billions of people around the world, allowing us access to news, entertainment, education and assistance at the touch of a button, with no wires required.

Occasionally, the wireless tech in our homes and businesses goes awry, and when it does, it’s usually a pretty minor inconvenience, where we have to restart the router, or forgo Netflix for the evening.

But in the world of medical devices, issues with wireless technology can be fatal – lives are genuinely dependent on the tech continuing to work.

That’s why the convenience, efficiency and reliability provided by high-end, wireless medical tools is utterly priceless, and the safe integration of them into as many healthcare environments as possible is critical.

Critical connection.

Datakey customer Stryker Corporation designs and builds endoscopic video systems, which can transmit a live feed of a surgery inside the body to HD monitors, completely wirelessly.

Like any other wireless system, there’s always the worry of interference, while coexistence and reliance on other wireless devices – like intentional radiators such as mobile phones and routers, as well as other transmitters in other operating rooms – is needed.

Creating a completely accurate link.

This coexistence relies on a completely accurate link between the specific transmitter and the monitor – obviously it would be catastrophic for the video stream to mirror the wrong transmitter.

Stryker use Datakey memory tokens to physically carry the data between the transmitter and the monitor.

Stop moving monitors, carry on saving lives.

Pairing the transmitter and monitor using memory tokens eradicates the requirement to move the monitors within reach of a connecting cable, allowing procedures to continue in exactly the same way, with the peace of mind that there is a specific link between each transmitter and monitor – the tokens are also easier to clean and sterilise than any wires or cables.

Token based authentication memory tokens can be used for the secure storage/transfer of keys, certificates and passwords, but also as secure credentials.Datakey SlimLine™ memory tokens help you in your application?
